Gregory Michael MacDonald 1968-2009

On May 3rd, 2009, Robin's brother passed away suddenly. It was and still is a total shock to us. We were supposed to leave for Florida, the day after we received the news. We cancelled the trip and instead dealt with funeral arrangments along with my Mother in Law. It still seems so surreal. I did the one thing I do best which is cook/bake. I spent the entire week( we found out on Monday and the visitation was on Friday) planning meals, baking and serving. It actually made me feel useful and brought me a sense of peace. Greg really loved my cooking and he was a hearty eater. I did NOT take any pictures, It honestly never even entered my mind.

We're heading to Floriday on Tuesday as I really feel Robin needs a change of scenery and some relaxation. Robin had just started her 2 week vacation when we found out and thankfully, her employer gave her some more time off to get herself together.

I'm taking an extended break from this blog, dont know when I'll return.

Hello, I just woke up and was clicking on the lovely cooking blogs to see which one might catch my eye. I just read your post...I am so sorry for your families loss and the sorrow that follows such a time. I am sure each item you made was an act of love for those around you and the memory of Robins brother. I crocheted my way through three afghans with the yarn my Aunt left behind after she passed away. Each stitch somehow helped me with my grief. May the God of all comfort be very close to each of you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It must have been shocking to lose someone that young, so suddenly. I hope you enjoy your break (both the trip and from blogging) but I'll miss reading you.

Thank you for posting this. I was a childhood friend of Greg and although I have not seen Greg for many years, I have many fond memories of him and his family.

I am very sorry for his family and friend's loss.

You & Robin have my deepest sympathies. A vacation may be a excellent way to deal with the grief. You are in my prayers.
I'll await your return. I hope it's not too long.

Hi Randi,

I miss your blog. I'm still making that awesome Mexican salad with that amazing cilantro dressing. I actually used it as a marinade for shrimp and grilled it. It was amazing!
I hope you are doing ok and hope you will, someday, start posting again.

Randi,
I am so sorry to read this - it has been ages since I've seen you post on eG (except I saw your Top Chef post, so that was current! I don't read much there anymore.) and I come here and nothing since May. I hope you are both doing well.

Randi, saw your post on cookiemadness about an "old" toffee recipe. Would you email it to me please (comangels at comcast.net). I do a lot of baking/cooking for our family, and enjoy trying new recipes. Not much on the blog scene tho'. Many thanks ahead of time for that recipe tho'. Btw, no thermometer, I went by color, and the cookiemadness recipe came out "killer" as my son says. His Mom thinks I did okay as well, lol.
